That time the conspiracy turned out to be true… Next time you hear something categorized as a conspiracy. Consider the fact that in 20 years it may revealed as fact.
Just saying.
Here’s seven conspiracies that turned out to be true.
1 NSA Surveillance (PRISM Program):
Conspiracy: The U.S. government was conducting mass surveillance on its citizens.
Truth: In 2013, Edward Snowden, a former NSA contractor, leaked classified documents revealing that the NSA was indeed conducting widespread surveillance on American citizens, including the collection of phone records and internet data.
2 MK-Ultra:
Conspiracy: The CIA was conducting secret experiments on mind control.
Truth: In the 1970s, it was revealed that the CIA had indeed conducted a series of mind-control experiments on unwitting American citizens during the 1950s and 1960s, involving drugs like LSD.
3 Tuskegee Syphilis Study:
Conspiracy: The U.S. government was conducting unethical experiments on African American men.
4 Truth: From 1932 to 1972, the U.S. Public Health Service conducted an unethical study on African American men in Tuskegee, Alabama, who were left untreated for syphilis to study the progression of the disease.
5 The Gulf of Tonkin Incident:
Conspiracy: The U.S. government exaggerated or fabricated an incident to justify entering the Vietnam War.
Truth: Declassified documents and historical analysis have shown that the Gulf of Tonkin incident was misrepresented by the Johnson administration, which used it to justify escalating U.S. military involvement in Vietnam.
6 COINTELPRO:
Conspiracy: The FBI was secretly undermining civil rights organizations and activists.
Truth: COINTELPRO was a series of covert and often illegal projects conducted by the FBI to surveil, infiltrate, and disrupt civil rights groups and political activists in the 1960s and 1970s.
7 Big Tobacco and Health Risks:
Conspiracy: Tobacco companies were aware of the health risks of smoking and covered it up.
Truth: In the 1990s, internal documents from major tobacco companies were released, showing that they knew about the health risks and addictive nature of smoking but actively worked to downplay and obscure this information from the public.
8 Watergate Scandal:
Conspiracy: Members of the Nixon administration were involved in a cover-up after a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters.
Truth: Investigations revealed that the Nixon administration was indeed involved in efforts to cover up its involvement in the Watergate break-in, leading to President Nixon’s resignation.
